Chapter Summary

The World Energy Council (WEC), the oldest energy organization, has begun to seek ways to respond to the world's demands for more plentiful, more reliable and more sustainable energy. The WEC is a non-governmental organization (NGO) and operates autonomously under a mandate to promote the sustainable supply and use of energy for the greatest benefit of all people. The WEC comprises three bodies: the Council, the WEC Foundation, and WEC Services Limited (WSL). The WEC raises funds through the WEC Foundation and WSL-subsidiaries within the Charity group. The WEC's primary role in the energy field is to serve as an apex for communication and research. It can be accessed by governments, international and non-governmental organizations, the private sector, and scholars. Projections show that oil resources are running out and that fossil-based fuels are becoming exponentially harmful to the global environment.
