Chapter Summary

The extreme anti-Zionism, which justifies suspicions of anti-Semitism, becomes an ideology bearing witness to the crisis and weakness of a player less and less capable of mobilising student trade unionism. The leftism in question is very much on the decline, has no real hold on student circles, and is radicalised and attracted by a certain amount of violence, which is a mark of weakness. When problems are not resolved within the academic institution, or are only resolved following the intervention of other institutions, for example the courts and the police, there is always the danger of promoting a vicious circle in which the media will blow them up, use them and transform them into social facts. At the same time, the problems tend to plunge the institutions ever deeper into the tensions, the fears and fantasies and the passions which mobilise society as a whole.

Keywords: decline of leftism; extreme anti-Zionism; society; student trade unionism
