Chapter Summary

France is witness to a whole set of difficulties indicative of change, the three main elements of which are propitious to the expansion of the sphere of anti-Semitism. France is a geopolitical power which intends to play a diplomatic role in the world and in the Middle East in particular. Its political leaders whether in power or in opposition, continually take stances on the issues of the Israel-Palestine conflict, while the population as a whole is much more sensitive to anything which affects this part of the world, than to events anywhere else. Not all of the elements necessarily have an impact on hatred of the Jews or operate uniquely in this direction. But their combined presence means that they constitute a unique entity within which forces contributing to the revival of anti-Semitism in France converge in a much more disturbing or disquieting way than elsewhere.
