Chapter Summary

The compilation of this collective inventory has not been random activity; it is part of a far wider association of international activities. The foundation for this framework was laid by the programme Towards A New Age of Partnership (TANAP), which ran from 1999 to 2007. Yet another important contributory factor has been the long-lasting co-operation between the Arsip Nasional Republik Indonesia (ANRI) and the Nationaal Archief in the Netherlands, which is more longstanding than the TANAP framework. This chapter describes the mutual cohesion between the divergent activities. The Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC) archive is the most frequently consulted archive among all those held in the Nationaal Archief in The Hague. The relationship between the Nationaal Archief in The Hague and its partner archives in Colombo, Cape Town, and Chennai was a completely new undertaking.
