Chapter Summary

This chapter presents a recommendation concerning the international standardization of statistics on radio and television, adopted by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), meeting in Nairobi, held on 22 November 1976. The statistics referred to in the Recommendation intends to provide, in respect of each Member State, information on a standardized basis about: domestic broadcasting, and external broadcasting. Broadcasting institutions should be classified by their constitutional status and by their geographical coverage. Statistics on transmitters should distinguish between sound broadcasting transmitters and television transmitters.
