Chapter Summary

This chapter presents the articles included in the Convention and adopted by the General Conference of UNESCO. The development of international rules is one of the main functions of UNESCO. These relate to prohibiting and preventing the illicit import, export and transfer of ownership of cultural property. This Convention was signed considering the fact that the interchange of cultural property among nations for scientific, cultural and educational purposes increases the knowledge of the civilization of Man, enriches the cultural life of all peoples and inspires mutual respect and appreciation among nations.
