Chapter Summary

This chapter is a part of the second part of this volume. It presents the recommendation concerning the international standardization of statistics on radio and television, adopted by the General Conference of the UNESCO. The statistics referred to in the Recommendation intends to provide, in respect of each Member State, information on a standardized basis about domestic broadcasting, and external broadcasting. Broadcasting institutions should be classified by their constitutional status and by their geographical coverage. Statistics on transmitters should distinguish between sound broadcasting transmitters and television transmitters. The development of international rules is one of the main functions of UNESCO.
