Chapter Summary

This bibliography contains a list of reference articles and books relevant to discussion of the act and consequence in Second Temple Instructions. An important transition took place during the late Second Temple period among Jewish sages, a reassessment of longstanding typologies for reward and punishment. The entire wisdom tradition was being challenged by a radical new proposal, which Qoheleth and other figures, including Ben Sira, vigorously opposed: fulfilling the act-consequence relationship through eschatological means.

Keywords: act-consequence relationship; Ben Sira; Jewish sages; Qoheleth; Second Temple period
