Chapter Summary

This chapter discusses the contents of the book and its key concepts. The book is a compilation of documents intends to cover a gap in the contemporary literature which compiles texts of other similar fields of human rights, such as the protection of refugees, religious freedom, non-discrimination and citizenship. It presents an introductory study about these sources of law. Particular attention is paid to bilateral treaties and declarations with references to national minorities. All treaties signed by the States as well as by the EU are the core object. The present compilation shows that the States have not only adopted bilateral treaties with clauses for national minorities, but also many political documents, which apparently are of non-binding character. The study of the bilateral treaties also raises the question about the characteristics of the Law of National Minorities.
