Chapter Summary

This chapter presents a letter written by Paul B. Decock to Gerrit van Ek. This letter is in response to Gerrit's paper Unmasking the Seven Veils: From Narrative Plot to Transformative Power in Biblical Hermeneutics". Paul compliments Gerrit for his paper which clearly how the 'nature' of the community in which the text is read spontaneously directs the attention to what it finds 'interesting' in the plot. According to Paul, modern exegetes are of course more restrained than artists in their ways of reflecting the interests of their own cultural communities in their work. However, with regard to the story of Mark 6:14-29 their restraint seems to have turned to short-sightedness.
