Chapter Summary

This index section presents list of terms discussed in the book Ritual and Politics: Writing the History of a Dynastic Conflict in Medieval Poland. The book concentrates on the expectations formulated by the chronicler toward Zbigniew’s behaviour after Zbigniew’s return to Poland; and reflects upon the role played in the chronicler’s description of the conflict between Boleslaw and Zbigniew by the ritual of deditio, a ritual through which, consistently with the chronicler’s convictions, a reconciliation between the two conflicted brothers ought to have achieved its ceremonial closure. It examines Boleslaw’s sin, and the crime which he had committed against Zbigniew.

Keywords: Boleslaw; Medieval Poland; Zbigniew
