Chapter Summary

This index presents a list of subject terms that are mentioned in the book titled The Central Convent of Hospitallers and Templars History, Organization, and Personnel (1099/1120-1310). The central convent of Hospitallers and Templars evolved in the course of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Both institutions responded to the challenges accompanying their growth as well as the changes in their environment with a striking ability to adapt and an effort to become somewhat alike structurally. In their early days, both communities strove to free themselves from the control of the patriarch of Jerusalem and to represent themselves in accordance with the increasingly important role played by their masters at the royal court of Jerusalem.
