Chapter Summary

This chapter discusses the report on the EПӀΣkeΨӀΣ of land. The text contains the report by the strategos and royal scribe of the Mendesian nome, assisted by two people from the neighbouring Busirite nome, appointed by the epistrategos. A large number of papyri from the Mendesian nome have survived, but these are nearly all carbonised and were preserved because of a fire in the record-office of the nome: see P. Thmouis I, pp. 1-4. The text has an entirely 'normal' appearance and is certainly not carbonised. The report begins with a copy of a report drawn up by the royal scribe. It certainly concerned the status of some land; no doubt to establish whether or not it was liable to taxation. The language used is very reminiscent of that found in P. Thmouis I, not surprisingly since both papyri are from the Mendesian nome.

Keywords: EПӀΣkeΨӀΣ of land; Mendesian nome; royal scribe
