Chapter Summary

This front matter section of the book titled Ockham and Ockhamism: Studies in the Dissemination and Impact of His Thought contains the table of contents, list of abbreviations, and preface. Across the last half-century the impact of the thought of William of Ockham, and most especially the interpretation of the statutes and surrounding events at the University of Paris in the 1339-1347 period, has generated a large body of scholarship. The book is concerned with the impact of Ockham's thought in England and on the Continent, and whether an Ockhamist school developed in the fourteenth century. Moreover, inasmuch as Ockham's 'nominalism' and the discussion of supposition are linked to the problem of universals, which is traditionally considered to lie at the heart of nominalism.
