Chapter Summary

This index presents a list of ancient author names and terms that are mentioned in the book titled Promises to Keep: The Oath in Biblical Narrative. The relationship between God and His people is governed by an oath. Both God and His nation take oaths that they intend to fulfill their part of the covenant between them. It is striking that despite the fact that oaths were likely taken to guarantee the credibility of the oath-taker, God does take oaths in the Bible. The most consistent oath in the Bible is, in fact, God's promise of the land of Canaan to the Israelite people.

Keywords: biblical narrative; God; Israelite people; Saul
