Chapter Summary

This chapter analyzes ten extrabiblical texts in a manner similar to our analysis of the six biblical war stories. It focuses on the following criteria as guidelines for the selection of these nine texts: (1) Texts in which the theme of ‘war’ occurs; (2) Texts that are contemporary to the biblical texts that we have analyzed; (3) Texts, we had thought on beforehand that they would contain both a royal and a religious focus. The chapter classifies the various types of events that follow in a similar way to the way in which we classified the Old Testament stories, in order to be able to measure the type of event to which the most amount of representational time is devoted.

Keywords: extrabiblical texts; Old Testament
