Chapter Summary

The recent expert re-edition of the elogia from the Forum Augustum in CIL VI.8.3 provides the basis for a new list of the honorands as far as it can be now known. Starting from the Temple end of the Forum there were two spaces for statues beyond the north-western hemicycle and four beyond the south-eastern hemicycle. The first two hemicycles were, as can still be clearly seen in the remains of the south-eastern side, two storeys high. The south-eastern exedra appears to have contained the statues of the seven kings of Rome, thus adding a regular statue of Romulus to the large one in the central niche with the spolia opima. This chapter presents a list of the persons known to have been represented by statues in the galleries of the Forum of Augustus.
