Chapter Summary

The Theoretico-practica theologia (TPT ) has been distributed widely throughout Europe and North America. The TPT is a result of a lifelong labor of Petrus van Mastricht. This chapter examines chronologically those works of Mastricht that were involved in the composition of the 1682-1687 and 1698 edition. The Doctrine of God, the Nature of Theology, and Covenant Theology. Mastricht's disputations in Duisburg, De Existentia et Cognitione Dei, and those in Utrecht, De Essentia, Nominibus et Atrributis Dei in genere, on the nature of theology and on the covenant became an integral part of the TPT. The systematic part of the TPT presents an outline of moral theology and theologia ascetica. The final part of the TPT contains the Hypotyposis Theologiæ asceticæ.
