Chapter Summary

This front matter section of the book Petrus van Mastricht (1630-1706) contains the table of contents, preface and introduction of the book. The central concern of the book is the understanding of Petrus van Mastricht's formulation of theology, the quest for method and piety. The methodology followed in this examination is a descriptive analytical study of historical theology. Moreover, the examination is fourfold. The first part of the book provides a more detailed account of the life and work of Mastricht in the context of his time, and the second part describes premises of the Theoretico-practica theologia (TPT). The third and fourth parts offer a matrix examination of the doctrine of God as found in the TPT; the former presents a cross sectional assessment, and the latter provides an in-depth analysis of Mastricht's exegesis, doctrinal formulation, elenctic reflection, and practical implications.

Keywords: historical theology; Petrus van Mastricht; Theoretico-practica theologia (TPT)
