The entries are arranged in alphabetical order. This study deals with the post-Reformation Reformed concern for right doctrine and piety. In respect to the former, scholarship has tended to appraise the theology of the seventeenth-century Reformed orthodox era, which includes the Nadere Reformatie, Puritanism and Pietism, as rigid and polemic; i.e. an abstract doctrine with little or no regard for practical significance.
