Chapter Summary

This front matter section of the book Mnemosyne Supplements presents monographs on Greek and Roman Language and Literature. It contains the table of contents, introduction, and notes on contributors. The articles in the book have been organized in two sections, corresponding roughly to the two oxymoronically collocated words in the title of the book. The first section focuses on literary and philological discussions, the second section deals with historical, religious and philosophical aspects. For some of the articles this distinction is of course rather arbitrary, because of the evident interconnection between the two covered fields. Most of the chapters in the book are revised versions of papers given at the conference, while three others were written for the occasion.
