Chapter Summary

This chapter first sketches the work on the text of Vita Apollonii Tyanei (VA) done until now. Then, it gives a list of the MSS, which contains the complete text or longer excerpts. Subsequently, the chapter discusses the affiliation of the MSS, presenting a stemma codicum. The stemma of the MSS of the VA is bipartite. A stands apart against all the other MSS, which derive from a lost common ancestor α which is a gemellus of A; A has no extant progeny. The chapter first deals with deal with the relationship of A and α. and then shows that α has given birth to two families, the first one (β) consisting of BEMPTU, the other one (γ) of FGHLQRSVYZ.
