Chapter Summary

This index presents a list of names of biblical persons that occur in the book The Multiple Meaning of Scripture: The Role of Exegesis in Early-Christian and Medieval Culture. The names of biblical persons are mentioned under the entry Biblical Names, and the names of medieval authors are generally given in their anglicized form. Biblical interpretation was an all-pervasive activity in the Middle Ages, and during the last thirty years exegetical works have become recognized as important sources by historians. This book has its origins in several sessions on Medieval Exegesis held at the International Medieval Conference in Leeds in 2004 and 2006.

Keywords: biblical exegesis; early-Christian culture; medieval culture; Scripture
