Chapter Summary

The doxography on the heavenly bodies now moves on to one of their chief characteristics, which was already assumed in the first chapter on their nature, namely that they gleam or shine. The verb ϕωτίζονται in the title corresponds to the noun in the chapter on the illuminations of the moon, ¶ 28 Περί ϕωτιμσῶν σελήνης. The subject of the second part of the chapter on the source of the stars' nourishment, which as we shall see might be better regarded as a separate chapter, is exactly parallel to ¶ 5 Πόϑεν τρέϕεται ὁ χόσμος.

Keywords: ϕωτίζονται; nature; Ps.Plutarch (P)
