Chapter Summary

The final chapter in the sequence on the moon gives various doxai on its distance from the sun and the earth. In determining the text and structure of the chapter, the first problem relates to its title. S left out the reference to the moon because this was self-evident in the context of his chapter. The long title in P does not cover the contents of the chapter precisely enough, since it speaks about the distances of the moon from the sun and the earth. The moon is rather close to the earth suggests that the height of the heaven above the earth is not so great. The chapter consists of a list in the form of a type C diaeresis and type A diaeresis. The subject of the chapter is mentioned twice by Aristotle where he refers to astronomical research and does not discuss the subject in detail himself.

Keywords: Aëtius Placita; diaeresis; distance; doxai; earth; heaven; height; moon; sun
