Chapter Summary

This front matter section of the book Ritual Dynamics and Religious Change in the Roman Empire: Proceedings of the Eighth Workshop of the International Network Impact of Empire (Heidelberg, July 5-7, 2007) contains the Table of Contents, and the Preface. The author has chosen a few episodes of Hellenistic history as an introduction to the complex phenomenon of ritual dynamics in the Roman Empire because they encapsulate two essential features of this phenomenon - ritual transfer and the adaptation of rituals in order to demonstrate changes in relationships - and because they date to a relatively early phase of Roman expansion.

Keywords: ritual dynamics; Roman Empire
