The book is a collection of papers, the majority of which were originally presented at a 2007 Leiden conference on "Academic and Religious Freedom: Tensions and Compromises in the Coexistence of Two Fundamental Rights"; the training of Muslim clergy featured as a sub-theme at the conference.
