Chapter Summary

This chapter examines the biographical narratives that recount how the narrator became a missionary in Germany. The expatriation narratives analyzed in the chapter are stories of a life journey and describes both spatial and psychological movements and developments. Interviewees told expatriation narratives which show that they do not connect their pastoral call and their expatriation. Even though all of them understand themselves as missionaries, they do not recount a 'missionary call' to a certain country or place. The expatriation narratives show enormous differences in style and content even though they can be organized into certain groupings. One possible reason for this is that within migrant pentecostal/ charismatic churches, 'missionary' call/expatriation narratives do not seem to play an important role.
