This front matter section of this book titled Fiction on the fringe: novelistic writing in the post-classical age contains preface, acknowledgements and a list of contributors. The chapters in this collection originated as papers presented at a workshop held under the title Fiction on the fringe: Novelistic writing in late antiquity that took place at the Swedish Research Institute in Athens (November 2007). All the contributions have been reworked by their authors for this book from the versions delivered at the workshop, and some of them have been thoroughly revised.
