Chapter Summary

This section of the book Research in the Social Scientific Study of Religion provides biographical details for a selected list of authors. The articles presented in the book capture a diverse array of topics and the special section on Muslim Mental Health delves into an area not well researched in the current literature. The Assessment of Spirituality and Religious Sentiments (ASPIRES) scale has been shown to be a robust instrument across religious denominations and cultures. Interestingly, the scale evidenced comparable reliabilities and validities for both the Christian and Buddhist sub-samples in the study presented here, suggesting that the ASPIRES captures aspects of spirituality that are nondenominational and universal.

Keywords: ASPIRES scale; Muslim Mental Health; social scientific study of religion
