Chapter Summary

This section presents a selected list of reference books relevant to the study of early Tibetan religion. Among the most obvious characteristics which define Tibetan Buddhism are the power and place of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, and the dominant position of monks in society. The author examines various political and religious beliefs through several categories. The categories pursued here are, in order, the historical/cultural, terminological, and ritual.
