This appendix of the book Em nome de Deus: The Journal of the First Voyage of Vasco da Gama to India, 1497-1499 describes the voyage of Vasco da Gama. This chapter describes how far he sailed with seventy ships from the river of Lisbon, in Portugal, to go to Calicut in India, and this occurred in the year 1501. And they sailed along the coast of Barbary, and came before a town called Meskebijl [Mers el Kebir], and were there defeated with great loss and dishonor, and lost there many Christians, whose souls God must have had.
