Chapter Summary

The most important ways in which the UNIDROIT Principles used are: as rules of law governing the contract; as a means of interpreting and supplementing international uniform law; as a means of interpreting and supplementing domestic law; as a model for national and international legislators - are set out in the Preamble. Yet, as stated in the comments, there may well be other purposes for which the UNIDROIT Principles may be used, such as that of constituting a guide for drafting international contracts, of serving as a substitute to the domestic law otherwise applicable and - last but not least - of being adopted as course material in law schools.
