In order to offer a more complete understanding of the ideals and activities of bishops in this period, the book examines the episcopate of tenth- and early eleventh-century Aquitaine in depth. The book, therefore, aims not only to investigate the nature of the episcopal office, but to shed light on this understudied period as a whole.
