Chapter Summary

This introductory chapter of the book, which discusses about Targum studies. In 1987 Johannes de Moor started a long-term project for the production of a bilingual concordance to the Targum of the Prophets, which was completed in 2005. Parallel to this assignment a series of smaller projects was initiated for in-depth studies of individual books of Targum Jonathan. There are two possible keys to open up the formative period, namely the Tosefta Targums and targumic quotations that are found in rabbinic and medieval Jewish literature. The chapter provides how the other chapters are organized in the book.
