Chapter Summary

The indexes have been prepared by hand, not generated elctronically, in an attempt to offer practical help for readers in tracking particular ideas and references through manuscript. In the subject index, because major characters such as Girgamesh, Enkidu and Hawawa are ubiquitous, some specific themes have been isolated. The text index applies only to the early second millenium Gigamesh material included in the translations, and other references may appear in association with broader categories such as 'mari Texts"or 'Atrahasis". When ideas or texts occur repeatedly, the index focusses on the most important uses. References to words in the translation notes are only indexed where there is a particular focus and references to texts only beyond the immediate context.

Keywords: Atrahasis; Enkidu; Gigamesh; Hawawa; millenium evidence
