Chapter Summary

This chapter contains a tribute to a scholar and friend. With this Festschrift the chapter honours a scholar who has achieved the height of his career at the University of Sydney, holding the position of Professor in the History of Ideas. Subsequently, after his retirement in 2005, the title of Emeritus Professor in this field was bestowed upon him. As with other scholars, the renewal of his intellectual alertness depends on a never-stilled enthusiasm for the subject under investigation, openness to critique, and an intrinsic curiosity about what one has not yet grasped (maybe missed) in one's enquiries - an often painful path Garry seems to have always been prepared for.
