Chapter Summary

Once one peels away all the later orthographic features of the tract in A, one is left with a text in fairly standard Old Irish that most nearly approximates the language of the main hand of the Würzburg glosses on the Pauline epistles, which are dated to c. 750 AD. Moreover, there are some linguistic forms in the text that are older than the language of the Würzburg glosses. The tract has been dated by Donnchadh ó Corráin to c.700 AD, but he does not discuss the basis for his dating. The author's findings are consistent with the date given by ó Corráin.

Keywords: Donnchadh ó Corráin; Würzburg glosses
