Chapter Summary

In 673, one of Tang "Four Elites", Luo Binwang (ca. 619-ca. 687), arrived in Shu where he met Miss Guo, who told him of her relationship with Lu Zhaolin. On her behalf, Luo composed a poem in ancient-style heptasyllabic meter, "Yanqing dai Guoshi zeng Lu Zhaolin" (Amorous Feelings: On Behalf of Miss Guo Sent to Lu Zhaolin). In this piece he tells of Miss Guo's plight and chides Lu for having abandoned her. This chapter presents an annotated translation of the poem, divided into sections based on changes in rhyme.
