Chapter Summary

The Compact on Free Association between the United States and the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands was signed in 1982 and ratified in 1986. Pursuant to section 175 of the Compact, the Parties to the Compact negotiated related subsidiary agreements. One of these related agreements was an Agreement on Extradition, Mutual Assistance in Law Enforcement Matters and Penal Sanctions. Title Two of that Agreement, Extradition, effectively established extradition treaty relations among the Parties. In 1986 the United States and Palau signed a textually same, but separate, Agreement on extradition pursuant to section 175 of the separate Compact of Free Association between them. The Agreement entered into force in 1994.
