The book is a key link in the history of the biblical text in so much as they are found at a crossroads where different textual traditions and forms encounter each other: the ancient Hebrew text which has come down to us through the mediation of the Masoretes of the Middle Ages (MT), the Greek tradition, generally called the Septuagint (LXX), and the textual witness given by the fragments from Qumran (4QSama-b-c).
