Chapter Summary

In the debate between the methods called "diachronic" and approaches "synchronic", "the latter have the undeniable advantage of approaching the biblical texts in their existing state. Le danger qui les guette, cependant, est celui d'enlever au texte la profondeur qui lui vient de son enracinement dans l'histoire.Rhetorical analysis is reduced virtually to the lighting of the structure of a text. The persuasive speech is found on every page of the Bible, the prophets, for example, in the wisdom of books, or in the many speeches interwoven into the narrative. The argumentative speech was primarily intended to act on the extra-linguistic situation. The persuasive speech acts on the pragmatic context and feeds in to a degree not to be found either in the pure narration, or in poetry. The rhetorical approach to biblical texts is still in its infancy. De plus, le Code de Sainteté est un texte exigeant qui ne se présente pas comme un corpus idéal pour développer une nouvelle méthode. In addition, the Holiness Code is a demanding text that does not appear as an ideal body to develop a new method. The original text of the chapter is in French.
