Chapter Summary

This front matter section of this book on the aesthetics of the Augustan poetry: an aesthetics of renunciation contains the table of contents and the foreword. The work of the Augustan poetry in the sense of a continuous work is to understand self-interpretation, and the chronology of the work that is especially the book structure due to the chronology of his own fictitious historicity or fictional autobiography. This chapter explains Horace's work and artistry in analogy to modern times. Similarity of the poetries is considered in more detail in the best sense: "The Odes of Horace is familiar to be easily understood". Start with these words Nisbet/Hubbard, the introduction to her Oden commentary, and in Indeed, one of the difficulties in dealing with Horace is better represented.
