Chapter Summary

The content of the research on cultural commodities in Japanese rural revitalization has multiple origins. Reflecting a sociological orientation, the content is based on relevant literature in both English and Japanese, public policy and budget documents at national, prefectural and municipal administrative levels, original surveys and media analysis, information gleaned from internet sites, and interviews with local residents, committee members, municipal government officials and artisans and performers. This appendices section provides the information on these sources. Sources such as these are absolutely necessary to organize this sort of research and the information they offer was used solely to provide a basis for understanding of the worlds of Tsugaru, Tsugaru nuri lacquerware and Tsugaru shamisen and to allow for the development of the ideas and the conclusions of the research.

Keywords: cultural commodities; Japanese rural revitalization
