Chapter Summary

The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) is an autonomous research institute within the framework of the United Nations. It is the purpose of UNIDIR to conduct applied research on questions relating to disarmament and international security. UNIDIR cooperates closely with the Office for Disarmament Affairs in New York and with its branch in Geneva to ensure complementarity and coordination. Through the last decade, UNIDIR's research programme has been structured into three main headings: (1) global security and disarmament, (2) regional security and disarmament, and (3) human security and disarmament. &t;Disarmament Forum&t; is the quarterly journal of UNIDIR, and its flagship publication with global distribution. The First UN Special Session on Disarmament also resolved to set up an Advisory Board on Disarmament Studies.
