Chapter Summary

This chapter contains the appendices and tables, which present the publication data upon which the book is based. It attempts to assemble a complete list of the postils of all major confessions in the Holy Roman Empire from ca. 1520-1620. Although the author has relied on various bibliographies, monographs, and articles, the digitization of library catalogues as well as the VD16 and VD17 have changed radically the historian's ability to gather publication data. Appendices 1 and 2 presents the postils consulted for the chapter, sorted chronologically according to the year of a work's first edition in the Empire (Appendix 1), and sorted alphabetically by author with select annotations (Appendix 2). Appendix 3 presents a chronological list of editions of Catholic postils published within the same time period. The chapter focuses upon single- or multiple-volume sets of Sunday and festival day sermons.
