Chapter Summary

This introductory chapter of the book on popular religiosity gives the fundamental guidelines of the research. It starts by explaining the reason for interest in studying the phenomenon of popular religiosity. The chapter then talks about the complexity of the study object and how this complexity leads to contextualise the study. It outlines the approach to popular religiosity, namely from the dimensions of participation and belief, interpreted as part of an internal complementarity in the Catholic Church in Italian context. The chapter proceeds to state the goal and problem of this research and its conceptual model. It then lists the empirical-theological questions it seeks to answer in each chapter of the study and the methods used to answer them. The chapter concludes with an overview of the remaining chapters of the book.
