Chapter Summary

This appendix section of the book titled The Paraphrase of Shem (NH VII, 1) presents the first principles of the universe. The book is the first tractate of Codex VII in the papyrus collection that was discovered near Nag Hammadi in Upper Egypt. The English translation of Roberge's book which is presented here addresses a larger audience than that of the French version. For this reason, the part of the Introduction that deals with the details of the manuscript and the language has been omitted, as is also the case with the Coptic text and the Coptic and Greek indices.

Keywords:Coptic text; paraphrase of Shem; Roberge's book
