Chapter Summary

Obviously, the process of archaeological study starts with a preliminary model, which contains tentatively interpreted structurizing entitites and qualities. A model built on theoretical constructs must be present from the very beginning of the archaeological method. The detailed evaluation of the archaeological records acquired by excavations in the Forest Nursery and the integration of the results of this research into the overall structure of knowledge of Pohansko leads to a new, extended model containing new information on the development of early medieval society in Moravia. This chapter discusses the history of research at pohansko in detail. The results of the research in Pohansko were, in contrast to the other early medieval centres in the Czech Republic, regularly published. Today they constitute a remarkable bibliographic corpus that encompasses 7 monographs and more than 100 studies and contributions.

Keywords: archaeological records; Czech Republic; early medieval society; forest nursery; Moravia; Pohansko
