Chapter Summary

This front matter section of this book titled The Earliest History of the Christian Gathering contains the table of contents, a list of abbreviations and the preface. The periodical gathering of the Christian Church has a long and complex history. The book endeavours to give a reconstruction of the earliest stages of this history. As a social and religious phenomenon, the early Christian gathering did not arise in a cultural vacuum. The book is an attempt to collect, arrange and interpret the scattered information concerning the Christian gathering during the first centuries of its existence and to use this information for a reconstruction of the history of that gathering in the period mentioned.
